Water For Elephants Background

(Actual photo of the Benzini Brothers circus tent where the book takes place)

While reading this book i found myself a struggling a little figuring out what is happening. I like to visualize what is happening in the book as i read along. Having a book set before i was born it made things difficult. With words like menagerie i decided to research a little more on the time period, the language and the circus. I had actually only gone to a circus once or twice at the Ringling brothers which are actually the rivals of the circus that is taken place in this book.

So far ive only gotten through about 4 chapters but am finding myself more and more interested. This book has me learning more about the characters through my interest in the setting of this book. Even though so far i have not seen any character development in Jacob i am reading every chance i get to find out! I have heard from others that there is so much going to happen and so much tragedy that i want to get to.

  2. I read this book over the summer and really liked it. I get what you are saying though and it does start out pretty slow but as the book went on I didnt wsant to set it down. It took me like a month to finish the first half of the book and about two days to finish the second half because i liked it so much and couldnt get myself to stop reading.

  4. I have yet to see the movie and the book but the books seems interesting except for the parts where you get confused. I like the challenge of it not being from this time period!
